Educating one child at a time in Haiti!

As you may already know, the disastrous earthquake on January 12, 2010 left many Haitian people displaced. Even now years later the people of Haiti continue to cry for help. Our Mission trip in July 2010 was an eye opener to the true need of the people. We found ourselves working with multitudes but the children were closest to our hearts. While many children were in school during our trip we found an overwhelming number of children who were unable to attend school that showed up in hundreds to the summer camps that we organized. They embraced our every word and engaged whole heartedly in every activity. We left Haiti with the realization that one of the better ways to make an impact in Haiti is to help provide an education for the children who cannot afford it. Therefore we committed ourselves to sponsoring 10 children from two local churches in Haiti in 2010.

That same year, both church personnel's contacted us regarding sponsoring additional children, which we were able to do the next year by the grace of God. As of 2011 we were able to increase our sponsorship to 5 additional children at each church. It was a challenge to raise funds for the first 10 children and it was not any easier to raise the fund for the additional 10. Since there continue to be many children in need, we believed that God would make what seems impossible to us possible.  Therefore we are waiting in great anticipation to see what provision God has in store for these children.  To that end we started S.C.H.O.O.L., a Christian initiative that provides scholarship to children whose families demonstrate financial difficulties that makes it hard for them to pay for school. We worked with two local churches/schools in Haiti at the beginning and initially supported 20 children that were in need of yearly scholarships. S.C.H.O.O.L. serves as a hub for the scholarship fund distribution. We've consistently grown since then to include 140 children in 5 locations, all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community!
